I posted on the forum before but someone my email wasn't registered. Anyway the main question I am posing is: How realistic is it to be able to sell books as a full time job? When I say full time, I mean is $45K a year possible in this economy and in this age of technology? I work in the science field and jobs are evaporating in my field. I am losing my job in two months and am very afraid I wont find another. I enjoy selling on the side and do fairly well as a very small business. I started in late 2008 and in 2010, made close to $10K in profits. But living in the boondocks of North Dakota for a time, I would still would see dozens of sellers lined up hours before a FOL sales with scanners in hand. Is competition too high? Is the economy too bad? Ideas on this issue are greatly appreciated. Happy selling!

The thing that worries me about books and other media is that everything is going digital now. With kindle, nook and  google print I am not sure how safe selling used books is as viable long term business model if you want to do it full-time.

Ive spoken to booksellers who think the market will remain strong for a very long time. Others expect it to collapse within the next 5 years and become more more of a niche market.
